How It Works

Each self-guided treasure hunt takes place in a fun, walkable area and typically lasts about 60 minutes, covering up to two miles. Teams of any size are welcome—explore solo or adventure together!

When you purchase a hunt, you’ll receive a printable PDF treasure map along with access to the Xplorer mobile app. Use either the printed map or the interactive app map to navigate between clue locations and solve engaging puzzles.

Move at your own pace as you discover the highlights of the area. Tap the “More Info” links to learn interesting facts and stories about each stop. After finding all the clues, you’ll crack a final riddle to unlock the treasure chest and enter to win Triangle Treasure Hunt tickets and other exciting prizes!

How long does it take to complete an Xplorer hunt?

Xplorer Self-Guided Treasure Hunts normally last about 60 minutes if teams complete all clues without breaks. That time is dependent on the walking speed of the group and how quickly the clues are found. We encourage teams to take their time and enjoy the journey by exploring the local area along the way!

What types of clues are used on Xplorer hunts?

We often create clues using public art, murals, cool architecture, local points of interest, and historical sites.

Is the Xplorer Mobile App available for both Apple and Android devices?

Yes, the Xplorer app is available in both the Apple IOS and Google Play stores to work on either type of device.

Who We Are

Created in 2018, Triangle Treasure Hunt started with Co-Creators Ben and Whitney hunting through the winding Italian streets of Florence. After the hunt, Ben got down on one knee and ended the hunt with real treasure by putting a ring on Whitney’s finger. The engaged couple returned home to Raleigh, North Carolina and began designing treasure hunts to inspire people to explore together.

The Xplorer mobile scavenger hunt app was created in 2023 to bring the thrill of a walking treasure hunt across the country. We aim to inspire exploration of the incredible local highlights our cities and towns have to offer!
